Why Won't My Forklift Lift?
A forklift that won't lift, lifts slowly or lets the load drift down usually has a hydraulic problem. Here are the most common causes and what a technician checks.
Common causes
- Low or contaminated hydraulic fluid
- A leaking hose or fitting
- Worn seals in the lift cylinder
- A failing hydraulic pump
- Electrical faults on electric trucks, such as a bad pump motor or controller
What you can check safely
- Look for oil under the truck and around the mast
- Check the hydraulic fluid level with the forks lowered
- Stop using the truck if it drifts with a load; that's a safety issue
